Preschool & Mother's Day Out - Making a Difference

As a direct outreach project of First Presbyterian Church's Christian Education ministry, the church sponsors two weekday programs for young children which operate cooperatively with one another - the Preschool and Mother's Day Out.

An outstanding church facility benefits each of the programs. Interesting, inviting, and innovative classrooms provide endless opportunities for learning and foster the young child's cognitive physical, social/emotional and spiritual development. Classes are kept small to maximize the learning experience. The spacious outdoor play area with climbing equipment, as well as the indoor gymnasium, provide excellent opportunities for play and gross motor development.

Our programs are faith-based, interracial and serve children from many ethnic backgrounds.

Preschool/MDO Registration

Registration for the next school year has begun.
A registration form needs to be completed for each child you are registering. A registration fee of $75 is required for each student that is registered. Registration is complete upon receipt of the registration form and registration fee. Please return your registration form and fee as soon as possible.

Preschool Program

The Preschool provides a creative and developmentally-appropriate learning environment for children who are toilet-trained and are from the ages of 3 through 5. Our staff consists of well-qualified, nurturing, and supportive teachers who are experienced in teaching young children. The Preschool holds memberships and participation in the Southwest Virginia Association for Early Childhool Education, Southern Early Childhood Association, and National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Based on the belief that children learn through play and meaningful experiences, the teachers plan and prepare a wide variety of center-based learning activities for the children to investigate first-hand. Components of the curriculum include the development and reinforcement of social awareness, self-discipline, independence and safety, literature and language and language skills, math, science, art and creative expression, movement, and fine and gross motor strengths. In addition, resource teachers in the areas of music and woodworking are integrated into the program, Spiritual growth and development is reinforced in the weekly chapel program offered to all preschool children.

Lunch time consists of a bagged lunch brought from home which is served and enjoyed in a group or family-style manner. During this time, the teachers strive to emphasize proper manners/etiquette, self-help skills, and independence.
Preschool operates 5 days per week from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with classes available on a 2, 3, and 5 day a week schedule.
