INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY is a network of 30 congregations with over 1,000 volunteers who provide temporary housing and meals for families with children. The network works with 4 to 5 families at a time (about 14 people). This organization provides full-time case management to assist families in addressing and overcoming causes of homelessness and creating goals of employment, housing, education in their return to independence. The mission of Interfaith is to "mobilize faith communities to return homeless families to independence by providing temporary housing and skills development." First Presbyterian Church works in partnership with South Roanoke Methodist Church and we provide assistance to these families four times a year. We rotate the hosting every other term. You can get involved by offering to host a dinner, bring a meal for the families and/or spend the night. Interfaith also has fundraisers including the Smith Mountain Lake Home Tour.
