habitat for humanitywww.habitat-roanoke.org The mission of Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley is to improve the lives of God's families in need by providing affordable quality homes in partnership with homeowners and volunteers for the enhancement of our community. Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley builds homes on purchased and donated land that their affiliate owns. Although 144 of the 146 of the completed homes are located in Roanoke City, they have now completed a home in Roanoke County and one in Vinton. Habitat relies on volunteer labor to build the homes plus homeowner families help in the building of their homes. The skilled work, such as masonry, plumbing, electrical, plastering, and carpet and vinyl flooring is contracted out to local subcontractors. Habitat's goal is to make every Habitat homeowner a success. Habitat not only acts as a mortgage lender, but as nurturers and friends to help families gain the information and tools necessary for independence. Newly approved families are required to attend a series of Partnership classes, held at the Habitat office on topics critical for success. The Habitat Store is a home improvement retail store operated by Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley. Both new and used building supplies are sold and it is located at 403 Salem Avenue (almost the corner of 5th Street and Salem Avenue). At the Habitat Store, you not only get a great deal, but your money goes to build more Habitat Houses. By donating, shopping or volunteering at The Habitat Store, you are supporting families in the Roanoke area in need of safe, decent and affordable housing. |
